About Us

Welcome to CNHA

Founded in 2001, the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement is a national member based non profit dedicated to capacity building and community development programming in Native communities in Hawaii and the Pacific.

CNHA is one of the largest national organizations serving Native Hawaiians headquartered in Hawaii.  Its membership consists of over 150 organizations and agencies working with and serving Native populations.

CNHA has expertise in community development technical assistance and training, communications and consulting, public policy initiatives and the coordination of events and conferences.

History

CNHA was established by 6 Charter & Founding Members serving as the initial Board of Directors. CNHA would like to thank the vision of the following founding members for creating a mission that we strive to meet through our programs, advocacy and services. Founding members include:

Tara Lulani Arquette Melody MacKenzie
Mahealani Kamau'u Robin Puanani Danner

Today, CNHA is governed by an elected 15-member Board of Directors, representing a variety of community organizations and is managed by a President & CEO with 11 staff positions.

    Our Vision is to have an engaged Hawaiian community strengthened by self-determination, cultural knowledge and identity that advances the well-being of the Hawaiian Islands and its people.
   

Our Mission

    Our mission is to enhance the cultural, economic and community development of Native Hawaiians and to support the capacity of community-based organizations that contribute to the well-being of the Hawaiian islands and its people.
